Racing Post trio listed for prestigious Derby awards
El Manze pie and mash restaurant gets listed status
A pie and mash shop in Walthamstow has been awarded grade II listed status because of its traditional features.
Since the 1920s, El Manze has been serving the traditional east London food.
Culture Minister Ed Vaizey, said the restaurant was a unique piece of London’s architecture.
Owner Jacqueline Cooper talks about the restaurant’s oldest customers while Roger Bowdler from English Heritage discusses its “amazing survival”.

Roger Bowdler, designation director for English Heritage, added: “This 1920s example, with it beautifully preserved interior, is among the best of an increasingly rare kind, and strongly deserves to be listed.”
While Heritage Minister Ed Vaizey said the eatery is a unique part of London’s history.
The Conservative MP said the shop was as relevant and popular now as it was when it first opened in the 1920s.
