China’s listed firms report rising profits for 2013

BEIJING, April 30 (Xinhua) -- China's listed firms saw profits rise in 2013, but a weak start this year has highlighted challenges ahead in sustaining momentum, latest data showed. As of 10:00 p.m. Tuesday, 2,519 listed companies on the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges had released their annual reports for 2013, which showed a 13.75-percent rise in net profits for a total of 2.26 trillion yuan (366.9 billion U.S. dollars), according to Wednesday's Shanghai Securities News. Longtime St. Tammany Parish District Attorney Walter Reed has paid his son's companies almost $95,000 from campaign funds over the past eight years, including $9,022 in 2013, a review by NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune and WVUE Fox 8 News found. Between 2006 and 2012, Reed paid Steven Reed's two companies, Liquid Bread and Globop, nearly $86,000, campaign records show.
