A plan to convert a former police station, which has been lying empty for five years, into flats was rejected by a council planning committee. The proposal was to turn the locally listed Walthamstow Police Station, in Forest Road, into 21 flats including four three-bedroom, 11 two-bedroom and six one-bedroom properties. A GRADE II listed building in the centre of Newport could be converted into 16 affordable flats if a planning application is given the green light. An application to convert Gloucester Chambers at the corner of High Street and Skinner Street into 10 two-bedroom flats and six one-bedroom flats, all of which will be owned and managed by social housing body Seren Group, is due to be discussed at a meeting of Newport City Council’s planning committee on Wednesday, February 3. Mattioli Woods has today revealed profit before tax of £2.8m for its six months ended November 2015, up 5.2 per cent from £2.7m for the same period the year before. Revenue for the wealth management and employee benefits company also rose to £19.9m, up 20 per cent from £16.6m the year before. HTC Desire 530 Listed Online With Price and Other Details

HTC might soon launch the Desire 530, as the yet-unannounced smartphone was briefly listed by a third-party Dutch retailer. The listing failed to give any details on the handset specifications but did mention some other information regarding its price and release date. The listing on online retailer Centralpoint (via GSMArena) suggested the proposed handset's price is roughly EUR 190 (roughly Rs. 14,100). Google overtakes Apple as world’s most valuable listed company

Google has become the world’s most valuable listed company after announcing that its global revenues rose 13% to $75bn (£52bn) last year, and the group’s tax rate fell to just 17%. The group took a record $1.9bn of revenues from its UK customers for the last three months of 2015, up 16% on 2014 – and all routed through its controversial tax structure in Ireland. Georgian Quarter roller rink ‘not suitable for listed building protection’

Calls to protect a former Liverpool skating rink that could be demolished for student accommodation have been dismissed by consultants working on the plans. Agents behind the scheme say the heritage value of the Ritz Roller Rink, in the Georgian Quarter, has already been assessed as part of their bid for planning permission.
