Listed hotel set for makeover
THE owner of a hotel, built more than 150 years ago, has announced plans to give it a major facelift.
The plans, if approved, will see the listed Pier Hotel’s front balcony expanded and turned into a new outdoor seating area for its first-floor restaurant.
The Pier Hotel, in Harwich's conservation area, was built in 1860 on the site of a former brewery.

UK’s oldest gay pub awarded listed status

Historic home of Sunderland’s Backhouse family up for sale
Bosses at the University of Sunderland are standing by their decision to sell a historic city building.
Ashburne House, in Sunderland, was gifted to the Corporation of Sunderland in 1922 by its last private owner Thomas William Backhouse.
