One of the most historic country houses in Newcastle could be sold at auction this afternoon. Pendower House in West Road, Benwell, is expected to fetch £370,000 when it goes under the hammer on Monday. The Grade II listed building was built for Victorian banker J W Pearce in 1867 and includes a line of Hadrian’s Wall. It was put up for auction by Newcastle City Council. A man has been arrested in connection with a fire which destroyed an historic chapel in Aberfan.
