Huddersfield Civic Society bids to save part of historic Longdenholme estate …

Community leaders are fighting to save part of a grand Huddersfield estate with deep roots in the history of the town. Huddersfield Civic Society has objected to plans to demolish the 19th century coach house and stables at Longdenholme in the Greenhead Park Conservation Area. The buildings overlook the park. That's the stark claim made today by housing charity Shelter, which researched two-bedroom homes listed for sale on property website Zoopla.Taking the average working family income of £30,748 as a benchmark, the charity calculated what mortgages would be affordable - and identified fewer than 50 suitable homes in the capital.As well as houseboats, the 43 properties include a mobile home. There are only 43 potentially suitable homes in London currently available that would be “affordable” for the typical young family buying their first property, according to research by Shelter. The charity says that in 35 local authorities there are no appropriate homes available for first-time buyers at all, mostly in the south-east and London. More New Jersey small businesses may be on the market compared with last year, but asking prices for those businesses have declined. A total of 1,867 small businesses in New Jersey were listed for sale during the first quarter, up from 1,801 in the same period last year, according to a quarterly report by online marketplace BizBuySell.
