Shareholder payouts top $1trn with UK listed firms paying out $102.1bn

The world’s listed companies paid out a total of $1.03trn (£618bn) to shareholders in 2013, according to an index tracked by the fund manager Henderson Global Investors.The figures stands $310bn, or 43.2%, higher than in 2009, the post-financial crisis low point for shareholder payout. Average dividend payouts have jumped 9.4% over the past five years, according to Henderson.The report found the UK’s share of payouts, 11%, is disproportionately large compared to the size of its economy.
