Listed building status halts pub demolition plan

CONTROVERSIAL plans to demolish a popular Cranleigh pub and construct 11 houses on the land have been withdrawn by the developers after the building was listed by English Heritage. The Little Park Hatch, which sits on the edge of the Park Mead estate, Bookhurst Road, has been accorded Grade II status by the organisation, meaning the pub building must be retained. Timothy F. Geithner, who finished his term as U.S. Treasury secretary in January, has found a buyer for his house in Bethesda, Maryland, just a week after listing the home for $995,000.
