It’s a celebration that dates back at least 4,000 years to Babylon and that continues today in a variety of forms from First Night celebrations for kids and families to partying all night long “on the town” or at Read more [...]

Oak Bluffs

Here it is the day before Christmas, as I am writing my last column for 2012. A few flakes of snow made a valiant attempt at giving us a "white Christmas" on Sunday, but they were not successful. The new year stretches ahead of us, like a shiny new penny. Hopefully the events of the upcoming year will keep it shining for a long time. Our family Christmas dinner is always a potluck buffet dinner at my daughter Mary's house, which took place Sunday night. Their family, and old friends and some Read more [...]

Danforth House a feature in local history, house walk – Washington Times

Pam and Ralph “Butch” Martin see themselves more care-takers of local history rather than simply a property owner. The Martins own 106 W. Holland St. which was originally built in 1869 for A.G. Danforth, one of several Danforths from a prominent Washington family. A.G. Danforth joined his father Asa in the banking business. And among the furniture in the Martins’ home is a bank table that had been auctioned off and used at one time by a local woman for canning. “It was a mess Read more [...]

TVNZ reported on Christmas Day that "a smattering of Chinese tourists on organised tours" had arrived, and showed city missioner Read more [...]
