Unsafe havens: care homes are branded fire hazards

Standards of safety in England's care homes are putting thousands of elderly and disabled residents at risk. Documents released under freedom of information requests have revealed that care homes are routinely breaching fire regulations, with 135 homes branded fire hazards by fire service inspectors.Hazards included damaged and dangerous equipment, faulty smoke alarms and untrained staff. Government approves sale of Burton Manor in Neston

Liverpool Council spent £284,000 subsidising Burton Manor, in Neston, last year, even though only 158 adult students from the city were taught at the college, which offers residential courses.
