Scour city for Preston’s lamb
THE public are being invited to take part in a city centre wide treasure hunt in Preston.
Ten Preston lambs will be hidden in the windows of businesses across the city centre, entrants correctly identifying the ten locations will be entered in to a draw to win £200 of vouchers.
Email bid@lancschamber.co.uk with the locations listed, your name and number. The competition opens on Wednesday.
Preston ale in commons bar
A PRESTON brewed real ale has been served in the House of Commons, Strangers’ Bar.
The city’s MP Mark Hendrick nominated the cask ale to be featured in the House of Commons Bar following a visit to the micro-brewery Hart Brewery last year. The Strangers’ Bar normally offers two cask ales when parliament is sitting and one of these can be a specific cask ale from their own MP’s constituency.
Music and mind festival to start
MUSIC and the Mind, a week-long festival reflecting on mental health and wellbeing, returns to Preston today.
Open Mind is a showcase of good health and quality of life events, and is open to all.

SOUTH Ribble Council’s meeting of full council will take place on Wednesday.
It will be held at the Civic Centre in West Paddock, Leyland, from 6pm.
New city centre ‘haven of rest’
A NEW worship and community centre is expected to get the go ahead when plans to convert a former workshop and offices come before councillors in Preston on Monday.
The Redeemed Christian Church of God want to turn the building in Oakham Court, Avenham into a “haven of rest.” Officers have advised members of the city’s planning committee to approve the scheme.
Fined for red light offence
A DRIVER who jumped a red light has been fined £200 by a court.
Anthony James Keane, 52, of Savick Road, Fulwood, Preston was found guilty in his absence by Chorley Magistrates.
The court heard the offence was committed in Leyland Lane, Leyland and Keane was given three penalty points on his licence. He was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
Flats plan for disused offices
PLANS to convert a vacant office and workshop into flats have been submitted to Preston City Council.
Owners of Maitland House, on the corner of Rigby Street and Maitland Street want to redevelop the property to provide three self-contained flats on the ground floor and three on the first floor.
No seat belt
PAUL Buckley, 37, of Oxcliffe Road, Morecambe was fined £250 after admitting travelling in the front seat of a car without a seat belt.
Helping people back into work
A NEW service aimed at helping people back into work is proving a success.
The Chorley Works programme was launched earlier this year to hel people aged 25 back into work. Now, six of the Chorley Works candidates, who have just completed their WorkStart placements, have all been offered work contracts with their placement providers.
Arsonists are to be sentenced
MOHAMMED Akubat, 22, of St Paul’s Road, Hasib Waheed, 21, of Brixton Road, Jalil Mohammed, 18, of Fishwick Parade, Preston, and Naveed Ahmed, 26, of Franklands Drive, will be sentenced on Tuesday at Preston Crown Court in connection with an arson at a family home in Fulwood.
Farm barn thief stole tool set
JACOB LEE Aislabie, of Kingsway, Heysham, near Lancaster, admitted stealing tools from a barn at Fleet Farm on Fleet Lane, Lancaster, in June
Lancaster magistrates gave the 19-year-old a 12-month conditional discharge but ordered him to pay a £15 surcharge and £100 costs.
Motorist fined over ID failure
MOTORIST Leanne Pittam, 26, of Station Road, Hesketh Bank, near Preston, was found guilty of failing to give driver information.
She was ordered to pay a £600 fine, a £60 surcharge and £85 costs after a hearing in her absence at Preston Magistrates’ Court.
She received six points.
Cannabis case
RYAN David Barker, 35, of Wordsworth Terrace, Chorley, admits possessing a “small amount” of cannabis and was fined £75 by Preston Magistrates’ Court.
He was also ordered to pay a £20 surcharge and £85 costs by the bench.
Man resists PC
JOHN Smith, 28, of Earl Street, admits resisting a police officer and was discharged conditionally for six months by Lancaster Magistrates’ Court, but was ordered to pay a £15 surcharge.
Charity needs more volunteers
FAMILY support charity Home-Start Central Lancashire is recruiting volunteers.
The charity will be hosting a volunteers training course on November 6 for people to find out more.

Firefighters to hold car wash
FIREFIGHTERS at Fulwood Fire Station will hold a charity cash wash today.
The event, which will take place at the station in Garstang Road, Fulwood, will run from 10am until 4pm and aims to raise cash for The Fire Fighters’ Charity.
The charity helps serving and retired firefighters.
Mayor to attend anniversary
THE Mayor of South Ribble, Coun Graham Walton, will join with the people of Higher Walton for a special service next week.
He will attend All Saint’s Church for its 150th anniversary harvest service.
It starts at 10am and the service will be led by David Dickinson.
