The most expensive house to ever be listed in Houston has just hit the market for $43 million.

The Memorial-area property, a Neoclassical-inspired French chateau, sits on 2.4 acres and has more than 27,000 square feet. It was built in 2002.

A press release from listing firm Martha Turner Sotheby’s International Realty says the home was designed for “elegant entertaining and the display of museum-quality art.” The kitchen includes a catering facility, butler’s pantry and office. According to the release:

Amenities include lavish gilt and delicately-wrought, hand-painted decoration; meticulously reproduced period molding; white marble tile and inlaid, hand-scraped hardwood floors; and antique boiserie, chandeliers, and marble fireplaces.

“Houston has some very expensive homes that have been built over the last 10-years or so,” Martha Turner, founder and co-president of Martha Turner Sotheby’s International Realty, said in the release. “And we may be turning the corner as families put them on the market for the first time since they were built, giving us a whole new price and quality level that we haven’t seen until now.”

UPDATE: The home is owned by Marie and Wilbur “Ed” Bosarge, according to the Wall Street Journal. Bosarge, is a former math faculty member at Rice University and co-founder of Quantlab Financial, the Journal said.
