10 engines called to listed building cottage fire in Yealmpton, Devon

Firefighter have been battling a blaze all night at a listed building in Devon, which also destroyed the thatched roof of another.

A total of ten units were tackling the fire at a detached cottage in Yealmpton, Devon, and the incident was first reported just after 3.30pm yesterday.

Crews continue to monitor the situation this morning.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue received a call from the owner of the thatch roofed property and the owner confirmed that they had a chimney fire, but it has spread to their thatch roof.

At first, eight appliances dispatched to the incident but crews requested further assistance at about 5pm and two more fire engines were sent from Paignton and Tavistock.

A Fire and Rescue spokesman said one appliance was still in attendance this morning.
