Conversion of historic building is agreed

ONE of the biggest developments in Kingsdon has been given the green light by councillors – despite concerns.

At a recent meeting Kingsdon Parish Council voted to recommend approval of plans to convert the grade two-listed former Kingsdon Manor School into housing.

  1. FUTURE PLANS: Kingsdon Manor School could be turned into houses after the parish council gave its approval to the scheme.

The proposed conversion would also see 11 new homes built. It has been submitted to South Somerset District Council.

Chairman of the parish council, Tony Masters, said the plan for 21 houses was the biggest development in the village but he was pleased the developer was able to preserve the historic building.

Representatives from developer JB Development Partnership Ltd attended the meeting to give a presentation and answer questions from the public.

Mr Masters said: “The meeting was well attended. It was really useful for the developer to come along and put people’s minds at rest.

“This is the biggest development the village has seen but we want to safeguard the manor building.”

The council did raise some issues – including concerns with access on to the B3151 which Mr Masters said was “particularly dangerous”.

Concerns were also raised about retaining public access to the site, making sure the development was integrated into the community, and restricting the hours of construction to minimise disruption to residents.

It is expected the application will go before the district council’s area east committee on Wednesday, November 14, for a final decision.
