A guide to improving the energy efficiency of listed buildings in Bath without damaging their appearance has been launched.
The Bath Preservation Trust (BPT) has joined forces with the Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE) organisation to develop a guide to how buildings can be modified without harming their heritage value.

The publication – called Warmer Bath: a guide to improving the energy efficiency of traditional homes in the City of Bath – gives ideas on how people can make their houses warmer.
It was put together by BPT’s Joanna Robinson and Will Anderson, a senior researcher at CSE.
Mr Anderson said: “We worked very closely with people in Bath and organisations when putting this guide together
“It is a very timely publication in many ways. Listed buildings are homes, and if they are to be viable as homes then we are going to have to change them.
“We know that the majority of people who live in listed buildings are cold in the winter.
“The guide shows how they can tackle that, without harming the building.”
Advice in the publication includes how to go about insulating the floor, walls and lofts, and stresses the importance of closing curtains to reduce heat lost through the windows, and choosing an efficient heating system.
BPT chief executive Caroline Kay said: “This guide represents a really important shared agenda for the conservation and environmental lobbies.
“It is a step forward for Bath householders, and by extension for those in other historic cities.”
CSE chief executive Simon Roberts said: “What goes for Bath goes for other places too.”
