Asian shares ended mixed Thursday, with China bank shares rising in Hong Kong on hopes the interest-rate increase by the Chinese central bank Wednesday will be its last of the year, while a sharp decline for utilities weighed Japanese stocks.

Japan’s Nikkei Stock Average ended the day 0.1% lower at 10071.14, South Korea’s Kospi advanced 0.4% to 2180.59, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index climbed 0.1% to 22530.18 and Australia’s SP/ASX 200 finished little changed at 4605.5.
