Pay off your Christmas debt by selling your presents

In line with previous years it’s no surprise to see a rash of articles telling of people selling unwanted Christmas presents online, but this year it seem there have been more inappropriate gifts given and received than ever.

Perhaps it’s due to the snow meaning that last minute shopping was conducted with even more haste than usual, but the Daily Mail estimates that gifts totalling some £652 million are being rapidly recycled into cash. With some online gifts not being received in time for the festivities a dash to the shops on Christmas eve looks like it resulted in some less than perfect gifts.

Gumtree saw a 386% rise in unwanted gifts being listed for sale while more than half a million items were listed on eBay within 24 hours of being opened.

According to the Daily Express the average Christmas debt this year is £262, so if you did receive a gift that left you underwhelmed you can hardly be blamed for selling it to pay off the presents you bought for your loved ones. Just don’t be surprised if they’re busily listing what you purchased for them on eBay.
