Council Backs Right Royal Clean Up

Cheshire West and Chester Council is supporting a campaign to get a million people out and about cleaning up their communities.

Members of Parkgate Community Spirit after a litter pick last year. They will be joining the ‘Clean for the Queen’ campaign in March.

‘Clean for The Queen’ aims to give the country a tidy-up ahead of The Queen’s 90th birthday in April.

The campaign, backed by anti-litter charities such as Keep Britain Tidy and the Campaign to Protect Rural England, will be the biggest community-led clean-up the country has ever seen. Supported by the Government, Clean for The Queen is centred on a weekend of activity from 4 to 6 March 2016.

The Council is encouraging and supporting groups and individuals who want to ‘do their bit’ to help clear up the litter that blights our streets and greenspaces. Groups or individuals can register their own events online here. At time of writing there is one event listed in the Neston area – the Community Spirit team in Parkgate are planning one of their regular tidy-ups that weekend.

If you are interested in helping out at a litter pick please contact the Council’s Place Operation’s team on 0300 123 7026.

Councillor Mark Henesy, Cabinet Member for Environment and Community, said: “We are delighted to be supporting Clean for The Queen and we would encourage as many groups, individuals and organisations in Cheshire West to take part.

“We know lots of people have already pledged to help but we hope many more will join us in March.”

Clean for The Queen campaign director Adrian Evans said: “We hope a million people will join us in a mass litter pick to give our beautiful country the facelift it deserves.

“Litter is a problem that Councils across the UK spend the best part of £1billion clearing up every year. By taking part in Clean for The Queen and clearing up the country, individuals and communities will not only be giving The Queen a suitably impressive gift to mark her 90th birthday, they will also be giving themselves and their area a present – a clean space in which to live, work and play.”
