The next TomorrowWorld isn’t such a sure thing anymore

The future of TomorrowWorld is a bit uncertain after SFX Entertainment filed for bankruptcy Monday.

SFX — the EDM giant that’s also behind New York’s Electric Zoo, Mysteryland, Australia’s Stereosonic, and more — said in a statement that the move will help alleviate more than $300 million in debt and maintained that it “will continue to prepare for, plan and produce all of its festivals and events around the world and in the United States without interruption.”

But in a statement to Mashable on Tuesday, Tomorrowland spokeswoman Debby Wilmsen said that’s not entirely certain. While she said that Tomorrowland festivals in Boom, Belgium, and Sao Paulo, Brazil, will will go ahead “without any disruption,” the same can’t yet be said for TomorrowWorld, which takes place every year in Chattahoochee Hills, Georgia, outside of Atlanta.

“In light of the present situation, no concrete plans have yet been made for TomorrowWorld 2016,” Wilmsen said. “We are currently exploring all possibilities. Tomorrowland has always worked from a long-term philosophy and in this context, all options are being considered to ensure that, like in Belgium and Brazil, the festival will have a bright future in the United States as well.”

She added that the Belgium-based Tomorrowland has worked with SFX since 2013 to put on festivals in the U.S. and Brazil. “However, we have noticed that our vision and goals, including a long-term strategy, are different from those of the publicly listed company,” she said.

SFX responded on Tuesday maintaining that all events will go on as planned and that “the TomorrowWorld team continues to move forward with the planning of its 2016 edition.” Tickets for Electric Zoo will go on sale on Thursday.

TomorrowWorld  2015 was, well, a bit of a disaster. After rain flooded festival grounds, many of those who were not camping on site were stranded for hours, many sleeping on the ground without access to food or water. Organizers to cancel the third day of the event for non-campers and issue refunds for everyone else.
