Things To Do New Year’s Eve Paris 2015: Events, Celebrations At The Eiffel …

Despite a year of deadly terrorist attacks, Paris remains one of the most popular destinations in Europe for New Year’s Eve or “la Saint-Sylvestre.” Authorities have canceled the planned fireworks show as security continues to be a top priority, but other stunning spectacles and celebrations will take place Thursday night at the Champs-Elysées, Eiffel Tower and other places listed below. So if you’re lucky enough to ring in 2016 in the City of Light, be sure to wish your Parisian peers “Bonne Années” at the stroke of midnight.

Avenue des Champs-Elysées

Flock to the famed Avenue des Champs-Elysées, located a little over a mile from the Eiffel Tower, around 9 p.m. local time for a fabulous street party, where there will be no shortage of champagne and “papillotes,” France’s chocolate holiday candies wrapped in gold paper. There are a number of spots closeby for dining, drinking and dancing before and after midnight. The scenic avenue runs for more than a mile through the 8th district of Paris, with the Arc de Triomphe located at the north end. The boulevard also boasts a good view of the Eiffel Tower.

Arc de Triomphe

Head over to one of the most famous monuments in Paris for a a light-and-sound spectacle starting at 11:50 p.m. local time and ending at midnight. The Arc stands in the center of the Place Charles de Gaulle and is located at the western end of the Champs-Élysées, about 1.5 miles from the Eiffel Tower.

Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel Tower boasts one of the most dramatic New Year’s Eve light shows in the world. The dazzling showcase is scheduled to begin at midnight local time. The wrought iron lattice tower is located on the Champ de Mars, a large public greenspace in Paris. There are a number of nearby restaurants offering Parisian fare.

La Basilique du Sacré-Cœur de Montmartre

Montmartre is a knoll-top village in northern Paris featuring the striking Sacred Heart Basilica and a surrounding plaza that offers a spectacular, panoramic view of Paris. There are also plenty of bars and restaurants in Montmarte and nearby Pigalle. The area is perfect for those wanting a more laid-back atmosphere on New Year’s Eve.
