The legal basis for its sale through Amazon is unclear. It is illegal under British law to become involved in an arrangement that makes funds available for the purposes of terrorism. Amazon could not immediately be reached for comment on the vetting process for the website’s sellers.
Thousands of British citizens have travelled to join Isil in its self-proclaimed caliphate straddling Iraq and Syria. Researchers say that English-language propaganda has played an important role in boosting recruitment.

Named after a small Syrian town near the Turkish border, Dabiq was launched in 2014. Its Syrian namesake holds significance for Isil. It features in Islamic apocalyptic prophecies as the site of an end-of-times showdown between Muslims and their enemies.
