Catering at the Cutlers’ Hall – host to some of the region’s biggest and most prestigious events – has been taken back in-house after more than 30 years.
From this week, Cutlers’ Hospitality will be responsible for serving meals to up to 350 people at hundreds of events throughout the year including the Cutlers’ Feast – possibly the only ‘white tie’ event outside London – corporate dinners and society weddings.
Sheffield Law Society’s annual dinner is on Friday, while current Master Cutler David Grey and the daughter of Sheffield City Council chief executive John Mothersole had weddings there in weddings in July.
The current three-year contract with London-based company, Kudos, comes to an end this week and the decision was made as part of the Company of Cutlers’ commitment to buy local.
Chief executive George Kilburn said: “Over the years we have established a core team of loyal and very capable staff.
“This is a superb opportunity for the Company to take direct control and improve our offer.
“Bringing the service in-house brings us complete autonomy allowing us to set our own menus, source supplies locally and control the quality.”
Changes are set to include using local butcher John Crawshaws and Hutton and Mitchell wine traders of Chesterfield.
General manager, David Stevenson, who has worked at the Cutlers’ Hall for more than 35 years, said he was delighted
“I have worked for the various companies who have been responsible for the catering here over the years but the big attraction for me has been this location, which is like no other.
“The change will bring back that family-feel and means we are all part of the Cutlers’ Company – which is a good place to be.”
Sales manager Kate Green said: “It’s exciting, we’ve got loads of ideas. The Cutlers’ Company is Sheffield and the amount of history, people and events they have had here makes it one of the city’s most prestigious venues.”
The Grade II listed hall is owned and maintained by the company.
