Mercer County Memorial Day events to honor those in service – The Star

Communities in and around Mercer County are holding various services to honor servicemen and women who have sacrificed in defense of their country. The events are listed below.

MONDAY

ALLENTOWN
The Allentown Lions Club will hold its annual parade, rain or shine, at 10 a.m. Parade attendees are encouraged to arrive by 9:30 a.m. as Main and High streets will be closed. A memorial service will follow on the Allentown Grammar School grounds. Prior to the parade, there will be a bicycle decorating contest sponsored by the Allentown business community Association at 16 Allen Drive. All participants are welcome to ride their bicycles in the parade.

CRANBURY
The Cranbury Township Lions Club’s annual parade will begin at Symmes Court at 1 p.m.

EWING
The Ewing Township Patriotic Committee will hold a ceremony at Maj. Gen. Betor Veterans Memorial Park at 11 a.m. The program will be conducted by retired Air Force Brig. Gen. Robert Dutko, assisted by Lt. Col. Robert Schofield and Chief Warrant Officer Kenneth Langer. Ewing police Sgt. David LaBaw will play bagpipes along with the Ewing Township Police firing detail, color guards from the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 7298, American Legion Post 314 and the New Jersey National Guard and a dove release by Karen Cox. Pavers will be dedicated at the U.S. Air Force Memorial at the end of the ceremony.

HIGHTSTOWN-EAST WINDSOR
The annual Hightstown-East Windsor parade will start on Stockton Street at 9 a.m., finishing at the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 5700 on Dutch Neck Road for refreshments. Dick Lee of Hightstown will serve as grand marshal. Five wreaths will be placed along the parade route to honor veterans.

HAMILTON
Groveville Fire and Nottingham Fire companies will host their annual parades. The Groveville parade begins at 8:30 a.m. from Sunnybrae Boulevard and South Broad Street, moving along Yardville-Allentown Road to Route 156 and proceedinginto Groveville onto Main Street into the Groveville United Methodist Church Cemetery, where a memorial service will follow. The Nottingham parade begins at 10:30 a.m. on Nottingham Way at Shady Lane and continues to the Nottingham Firehouse on Mercer Street.

PENNINGTON
The Pennington Borough Parks and Recreation Commission will have an old-fashioned, community-focused parade at 11 a.m. starting at the school administration building on West Delaware Avenue. It will proceed down South Main Street, turn left on Delaware Avenue and conclude at the end of Green Street.

ROEBLING
Local Boy Scouts and members of American Legion Post No. 39 will lead a service at 10 a.m. at the post on Fourth Avenue. Scouts and legion members will visit graves in all cemeteries in the village.

WEST WINDSOR
Coordinated by the township council with the assistance of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion, the annual parade will line up at 10:30 a.m. at West Windsor-Plainsboro High School South at Clarksville and Princeton-Hightstown roads. It will begin at 11 a.m. and be followed by a noon ceremony at the West Windsor Municipal Complex at Clarksville and North Post roads.
