Weekend holiday events listed

Probably one of the biggest weekends for events throughout southwestern Montana is this weekend. Here’s a guide to help you plan your outings.

Friday, Dec. 6

FREE CONCERT

Montana Tech Band’s annual free Christmas Concert starts at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, in the Mother Lode Theatre, 316 W. Park St. Enjoy the concert after or before you view the Festival of Trees in the Masonic Ballroom.

FESTIVAL OF TREES

Butte’s annual Festival of Trees will be Friday-Saturday, Dec. 6-7, in the Masonic Lodge ballroom (behind Mother Lode). This year’s theme is “Joy to the World.” Public tours are from 4 to 10 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, with live entertainment and Santa making an appearance, too. ENNIS STROLL

The “Spirit of Christmas” Stroll is Friday, Dec. 6, in Ennis. The day’s festivities begin at 3 p.m. with crafts, treats and stories at the Madison Valley Public Library. Horse-drawn hay rides are from 4 to 8 p.m., and caroling begins at 5 p.m. on Main Street. Other events include the lighting of the Lions Club Park at 5:15 p.m., and a live nativity scene at 6 p.m.

DILLON STROLL

The Christmas Stroll is Friday in Dillon. From 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. children can visit Santa Claus inside at Explorations Preschool and Daycare at Idaho and Bannack. From 6:30 to 7 p.m., floats will line up at the Beaverhead Chamber of Commerce for the Parade of Lights.

IRISH CONCERT

The Irish Music Series continues Friday, Dec. 6, at 7:30 p.m. at the Montana Tech auditorium. Featured is contemporary Irish Music with Liam Ó Maonlaí. Tickets are $20 at the door; $15 for students and free to kids under 12. Tickets are available at Butte Public Archives; Cavanaugh’s County Celtic; and Granite Mountain Bank.

BOOK ‘R’ FUN

Community Hospital of Anaconda Auxiliary will have a fundraiser, “Books R Fun” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, in the hospital conference room. The sale will include books, games and other gift ideas. For more details or to join the auxiliary, call Sue Cahill at 560-1219.

Saturday, Dec. 7

CHRISTMAS STROLL

The Mining City’s annual Christmas stroll, “Silver Bells in Silver Bow,” runs 2 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, in Uptown Butte. The stroll includes the children’s light parade, hay rides, an indoor arts and crafts, the arrival of Santa Claus, music and vendors. Details: 406-498-4870.

CHRISTMAS BAZAARS

Butte: The annual Christmas Bazaar hosted by the Society of Petroleum Engineering will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, in the Montana Tech HPER building.

Dillon: The St. Rose of Lima Parish 42nd annual Christmas bazaar and market runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, in the St. Rose Family Center in Dillon. Lincoln: The annual Lincoln Christmas Bazaar runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, in Lincoln Town Hall in Lincoln. Details: 406-362-4438.

GAIL FISH FUNDRAISER

VFW Auxiliary 1448 will have a fundraising spaghetti dinner for Gail Fish, former VFW Auxiliary president and veteran advocate, from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Elks Club. The price is $7 for adults and $5 for children. All proceeds will go toward incurred medical expenses.

TOUR OF HOMES

The Butte Symphony Guild’s annual Christmas tour of homes and tea runs noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased at the symphony office, 21 N. Main St.; Books  Books, 206 W. Park St.; or Keenan’s Jewelry in the Butte Plaza Mall. Also, tickets will be available at each home on the day of the tour. The tea will be held 2 to 5 p.m. at Big Sky Senior Living.

CLOTHING DISTRIBUTION

The annual free clothing distribution runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Maroon Activities Center. People in need throughout the community are invited. In addition, there will be free hot chili, hot dogs, cookies, hot beverages and Pepsi products. Details, 406-494-4442.

SKI SWAP

The Silver Bow County Junior 4-H Leaders will hold their seventh annual Ski Swap Saturday, Dec. 7, in the Knights of Columbus Hall. Consignments will be accepted from 8 to 10 a.m. The sale opens to the public from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Details or equipment pick, call 406-490-5436.

LUTEFISK DINNER

Gold Hill Church will hold its annual Lutefisk and Swedish Meatball Dinner from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, in the Fellowship Hall, 934 Placer St. Ticket are $12 per adult and $6 per child and will be available at the door. The menu features lutefisk and lefse, with pickled herring, Swedish meat balls, boiled potatoes and white cream gravy, cooked carrots and pickled beets; and Scandinavian cookies and fruit soup for dessert. FOOD DRIVE

Thompson Distributing, Zip Beverage Co., 15-90 Search and Rescue and the volunteer fire departments will have their 25th annual citywide food drive Saturday, Dec. 7. Residents are asked to place non-perishable food items in a bag near the front of their home. Crews will start about 10 a.m. to pickup the bags, and continue most of the day. SLED BANQUET

The Deer Lodge Snowmobile Club will have a banquet Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Wagner Barn in Garrison. Cocktails are at 5 p.m., and a dinner of roast pig and turkey breast will be served at 6. Local dealers will be on had, and there will be a 50/50 raffle. A dance will follow.

PANCAKE BREAKFAST

The Butte Mile-Hi Lions Club will hold it annual pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Butte Elks Lodge. The menu includes orange juice, pancakes, sausage and coffee, tea or milk. Cost is $5 for adults; $3 for children 12 and under; and $12 per family.

CHATEAU OPENS

The historic Clark Chateau, 321 W. Broadway St., will reopen to the public from 2 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, for the Christmas Stroll. Over 400 Santas in various shapes and sizes and from a variety of materials from cast iron to porcelain will be on display.

IRISH CONCERT

Contemporary Irish Music with Liam Ó Maonlaí will be performed from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Washoe.

BOOK SALE

The Butte-Silver Bow Public Library will host a holiday book sale at the Uptown library, 226 W. Broadway St., from Saturday, Dec. 7, through Saturday, Dec. 14.

Sunday, Dec. 8

IRISH CONCERT

The Montana Tech Choral Union’s winter concert starts at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, at the Montana Tech Library Auditorium. Tickets are available at the door and are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors.

BIG HOLE BAZAAR

The Big Hole Valley Christmas Bazaar will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, at the Jackson Hot Springs Lodge. For details, call (406) 834-3151.

HOLIDAY HOME TOUR

The Deer Lodge Development Group will have its second annual holiday home tour from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8. The cost is $8 per person and children 12 and under are free. The tour begins at the historic Women’s Club at 802 Missouri Ave.

GRANT-KOHRS

It will be a time of “Winter Wonderland” from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Grant-Kohrs Ranch National Historic Site near Deer Lodge.

The St. Rose of Lima Parish 42nd annual Christmas bazaar and market continues 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8.
