Fantastical is hands down my favorite calendar app for both the Mac and iOS, and Fantastical 2 for iOS went a long way to bringing the app in line with iOS 7′s major aesthetic changes. Now, just three weeks after its lauch, Fantastical 2 has seen its first app update, and there are some cool new options in here.

First, improved notifications. While in the initial release of Fantastical 2, notifications were silent, sounds now play when alerting you to your meeting. In addition there are three new app icon badge options besides the previous defaults of the current date or the day’s remaining items. These options include Today’s Remaining Events, Today’s Due Reminders, and All Incomplete Reminders.

Another improvement rests in how easy it is to call a contact listed in an address book item. If you have an appointment or an event with a number listed, a call button will now be inserted beside it, to make for easier call placement.

And hey, there’s even more updates! You can now double-tap a date picker and switch between one and five minute intervals. There have even been parser improvements, performance tweaks for the crusty old iPhone 4, and an updated time zon database. And if you love hacking your apps together with custom URLs, Fantastical 2′s custom URL scheme now supports reminders and dues.

If you are a previous Fantastical 2 owner, the new update can be downloaded for free from the App Store. If you’re new to Fantastical 2, you can find it on the App Store for $2.99.
