Home sales in the Memphis area during October were level compared to a year ago, with 1,378 total sales recorded by Memphis Realtors.

Sales dropped 0.4 percent from October 2012 when 1,384 units sold.

However, the average sales price through the first 10 months of this year has risen 10.7 percent to $143,200.

The number of houses on the market fell 0.9 percent, with 6,615 units listed for sale.

Sales volume, the total dollar amount of sales, rose 20.6 percent year to date, to $1.99 billion.

“Sales increased from September to October, so the market remains very active into autumn,” said Regina Hubbard, president of the Memphis Area Association of Realtors.

“And average sales price was up a good bit from this time last year.”

The Memphis Realtors association has about 3,000 members. Its MAARdata system includes records of all property transactions in Shelby, Fayette and Tipton counties.
