The Old Arabi Sugar Museum (220 Hernandez St., Arabi, 504-278-4242; www.facebook.com/sugarmuseum) celebrated its grand opening yesterday with a ribbon cutting and lots of cotton candy provided by Wings of Fun. The museum, located in what was once the Old Arabi Jail, was created by The SoFAB Institute and the St. Bernard Office of Tourism as a way to share St. Bernard Parish’s history in the sugar industry.
At 2 p.m. this Sunday, SoFAB’s head curator Prescott Trudeau hosts a discussion about sugar cane, The Old Arabi Sugar Museum and St. Bernard Parish’s history as it relates to sugar. This discussion is part of the French Market Fare Culinary Series, presented by the French Market Corporation and SoFAB.
