Pancakes, parade and puppets at Jacobson Landing Day

Jacobson Landing Day was celebrated Aug. 24 this year.

The day started out with a pancake breakfast at the Jacobson Community Church. At 9 a.m., runners started their 5K run from the campground to the Jacobson Landing Recreation Area.

The top winners this year were Jay Hildenbrand and Dawn Fairchild with times of 21:08 and 21:36, respectively. Winners in the categories are listed below.

Events at the Park included a horse shoe tournament, bingo, a pie auction, flea market and games for the kids. The flea market included decorative flip flops, diamond willow canes, preserves and more. The Jacobson Seniors sold popcorn and the Jacobson Civic Club offered baked goods. Both groups donated their proceeds to the Park. The Community Church gave away ice cream cones and presented a puppet show.

The parade began at 3 p.m. with Rodney Lentz from Warba American Legion and Dave Holm from Palisade VFW leading the way as honor guard. Tammi Swing, Sandy Schleh and Donna Krueger were judges for the parade.

First place went to Jacobson Community Center which advertised the 4-H dance for all ages to be held on Sept. 28.  Second place went to Jacobson Seniors with their Aitkin County TRIAD float and focused on Drug Take Back.  Those who want to bring discarded drugs to the community center Sept. 17 between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m., the Sheriff’s Department will collect them for proper disposal. The third prize was presented to Fred’s Store in Goodland for their float entry.
