Record producer Jimmy Jam’s former home, one of Lake Minnetonka’s most famous mansions, hit the market last week.

The house, at 5800 Hardscrabble Circle in Minnetrista, is listed for sale for $4.499 million.

Jimmy Jam sold the house for $7 million in 2007 to Christopher and Sandra Hintz, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The property is now owned by JP Morgan Chase, which acquired it through foreclosure, said Edina Realty broker Scott Stabeck.

The 1991-built home could use some updates and repairs and might even be a candidate for tear-down and rebuild, said Stabeck, who is listing the property along with Candi Stabeck.

But Stabeck also said the private location’s large lot makes it one of the most admired homes on the lake. For a really close look, you can see a 131-photo virtual tour on The Stabeck Group’s website.

If you don’t know who Jimmy Jam is, you probably aren’t from Minnesota. James (Jimmy Jam) Harris III is the music industry star best known as a co-producer of Janet Jackson. He’s also worked with Boyz II Men, Usher and Mariah Carey, according to Wikipedia. Early in his career he toured with Prince as a member of The Time.

Harris is a Minneapolis native and a huge Timberwolves fan who spent most of his career in the Twin Cities, before moving his business to Los Angeles in 2005. In 1994, he was among the inaugural class of the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal‘s 40 under 40.
