TWO war memorials in Yate have been officially listed.
The Lych Gate at St Mary’s Church and the Parnall Grave, in the church cemetery, have been Grade II listed by English Heritage. Both are deemed of significant historical and cultural interest that they should be protected.
The Rev Ian Wallace, curate of St Mary’s, said: “English Heritage felt they needed to be protected and we certainly had no objections.
“It is particularly timely with next year’s 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War One.”
The Lych Gate bears the names of all those men from Yate who died in both world wars.
The Parnall Grave bears the names of the 55 people who died in two bomb attacks on Parnall Aircraft Ltd, now the Merloni factory on Station, on February 27 and March 7, 1941.
