Festive 4th events set for area

SOUTHERN INDIANA —
A multitude of Fourth of July-related celebrations will take place July 3-4 in Southern Indiana and Louisville.

All events listed, aside from participation in the July 4 New Albany 5K, are free. Here’s a look at what’s going on in the area.

JEFFERSONVILLE

The city has three main attractions set, with the first being music from Off the Hook with guest Tony and the Tanlines starting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 3 at RiverStage. There will be music Thursday, July 4, there as well, with music from Endless Summer Band and guests Whiplash and Beyond doubt starting at 7 p.m.

Jeffersonville won’t have fireworks of its own, but people can stick around RiverStage and watch Louisville’s fireworks, which begin at 10 p.m. each night.

Jeffersonville’s annual Independence Day Parade will be at 11 a.m. Thursday — from Spring Street at Riverside Drive to Seventh Street. Games, music and fun will follow at Warder Park downtown. Call 812-283-0301 for more information.

NEW ALBANY

New Albany has two featured events, the first being the city’s Independence Celebration starting at 5 p.m. Wednesday and with fireworks at 9:45 at the Riverfront Amphitheater. NABB

The small town will celebrate Thursday with a community gathering at 6 p.m. at Nabb Presbyterian Church.

LOUISVILLE

The city’s annual Waterfront Independence Festival will be held at Waterfront Park on Wednesday and Thursday. There’s fireworks both nights at 10 p.m. and lots of free music.

The Catfish Louie Kids area and beer and food areas open at 5 p.m. The music schedule can be found at waterfrontindependencefestival.com, but Kool the Gang and Brett Dennen are sure to bring in crowds Thursday.
