Art Scholar: Can confirm Doncaster supremacy
Art Scholar: Can confirm Doncaster supremacy

Harris Tweed

Began his career here in maiden company in 2009 and has subsequently graduated to become a regular in Group and Listed company over middle distances. Finished a highly creditable second in the Godolphin Stakes at Newmarket though subsequently flopped badly at Newbury having been taken on for the lead, and is yet to win on an artificial surface.

Art Scholar

Ultra-progressive this year and rounded off turf campaign with victory in the November Handicap at Doncaster. Ordinarily held up and excuses for his last run at the track as he wasn’t helped by a funereal early pace. Clearly in good heart at present.

Communicator

Second to Art Scholar at Doncaster (1lb better off today) and didn’t do a lot wrong when previously overhauled by Tominator in a listed race at Chester. Adaptable in terms of tactics although hasn’t necessarily shaped as the strongest of finishers.

Media Hype

Won a handicap off a mark of 63 for Luca Cumani before joining current yard. Has officially improved 38lb since – securing two fair Northern contests along the way. Delivered a gritty third in the John Smiths’ Cup at York and put in a fair effort here last time out in what was probably a stronger race than what this looks to be.

Qushchi

Two of her wins have obtained in Autumn. No problems in terms of trip but she’s been found out at this level in the past and would be much better off with a number of her rivals were this a handicap.

Roxy Flyer

Finished sixth in a Lingfield race that generated some spectacular speed figures given the relatively slow surface it obtained upon. Yard have generated a profit at level stakes with their runners here this year though they have been 0-15 with their runners in November.

Wildomar

Subject of plenty of money when tried in first time cheekpieces but never sighted in the race itself and headgear has quickly been dispensed with. Won a maiden over CD in October though it hasn’t exactly worked out in the interim.

Bountiful Girl

Interesting that John Wainwright brings her all the way down from North Yorkshire to run. Claimed out of Richard Fahey’s yard for £12000 in August and would need a career best to be winning this.

Solfilia

Yet to score in four starts on artificial surfaces though finished a creditable second to a useful handicapper at Lingfield on her latest outing. Used to be campaigned as a sprinter though it’s a far from forlorn hope that she stays this far as she is a half-sister to Group 2 winner, Fracas.

Verdict

Three-year-old’s have a good record in this race with Dansant, Cheetah and Barbican all successful during the last five years though today’s trio all have something to prove. Harris Tweed would unquestionably be the class act on his day but he’s far from sure to get an uncontested lead so ART SCHOLAR looks the call. Connections have ambitions of big races in Dubai for their bargain buy and he does at least possess the finishing speed that others lack.
