The Michigan Brewing Company headquarters in Webberville is listed for sale.
The property, located at 1093 Highway Drive, near I-96 and M-52, is listed for sale on the CBRE, Inc. website for $1.65 million. The 76,000 square foot warehouse and light manufacturing facility houses a brewery, restaurant and homebrew store.
Michigan Brewing Company President Bobby Mason opened the Webberville-based business in 1995 with a 30-barrel brewing system, which has now expanded.
The company moved to the current facility in 2006 after outgrowing a smaller location located in the same area. Michigan Brewing Company struck a deal with Kid Rock and began to produce his American Badass Redneck Lager in July 2009. In the beginning of 2010, Michigan Brewing Co. added contracts with OW Inc. of Ypsilanti and Eastown Distributors of Highland Park, which increased the company’s points of sale across the state from 300 to nearly 2,300. The company also has a pub in downtown Lansing.
Michigan Brewing Company officials have said they plan to open a new location in Fenton at the old fire hall, 201 South Leroy Street. At Tuesday’s Fenton Downtown Development Authority meeting, Michigan Brewing Company official Bill Tadrick said they have been held up by the company’s architect. Tadrick said construction is slated to begin in May and the business is expected to be open in August.
“We’ve done everything we can do. There is no hold up on our end. We are ready to go,” Tadrick said Tuesday. “They assured us we’d have the plans by the end of the month.”
Fenton DDA Chairman Craig Schmidt said all parties involved met last week and discussed what everyone had to do to get the construction process moving and everyone was on the same page.
Mayor Sue Osborn asked if Michigan Brewing Company officials had funding secured and Tadrick said they had the majority of the $1.5 to $2 million ready to go for the project.
