Iceoplex up for sale

The Iceoplex at Southpointe, one of Washington County’s best-known special use buildings, is up for sale.

The complex is listed for sale for $11 million on LoopNet.com, an online site for commercial real estate.

The 65,000-square-foot structure, whose National Hockey League-sized ice sheet is used as a practice facility by the Pittsburgh Penguins, also hosts numerous youth, adult and recreational hockey programs.

Also included in the asking price of the 5-acre site at 114 Southpointe Boulevard is Jay’s Sports Bar, a 300-seat restaurant that offers guests views of the ice arena.

Dennis Allison, a managing partner with Southpointe Rink Associates, said Monday the group purchased the Iceoplex in 2001 in the aftermath of a bankruptcy filing by Pittsburgh Penguins former owners Howard Baldwin, Morris Belzberg and Tom Ruta, who had constructed the building in 1995 as a practice facility for the hockey team.
