New Year’s Eve 2011 Events



TUCSON – With Christmas over, the countdown to 2012 has begun! Here’s a list of some of the events happening this New Year’s Eve:

-Casino Del Sol – New Year’s Eve with KC and the Sunshine Band

“Join us as KC gets our party going at Casino Del Sol this New Year’s Eve. If anyone knows how to do a NYE party, it’s KC the Sunshine Band. They have made more appearances on “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” than any other musical artist in the program’s history! Dinner Show for $125 per ticket. Show only $75 per ticket (General admission). The ticket pricing includes party favors, balloon drop and champagne toast at midnight.”

-Casino Del Sol – New Year’s Eve Tejano Dance

“You won’t want to miss the biggest party in Tucson this New Year’s Eve and it’s FREE! Join us in the Bingo Hall at Casino Del Sol for a New Year’s Eve Dance featuring some of the hottest Tejano music acts around. Tejano legend Ruben Ramos will headline the event and will be joined by La Diferenzia, La Maldad and Tucson’s own La Familia Yucupicio.”

Hotel Congress is hosting “Aztec Apocalypse,” featuring live music from 80’s and Gentlemen, “Voluptuous Aztec Maidens,” and a “virgin sacrifice at midnight.” Tickets to this night of dancing, drinks and doom are $20 in advance, $25 day-of (if there are any left, which there won’t be, the event listing warns), and $100 for VIP tickets, which include an open bar and access to the VIP lounge.

The UA’s Eller MBA and the Tucson Young Professionals are presenting “Resolution,” a 21-and-up event at Loews Ventana Canyon. According to the TYP website: “Rock the red carpet, flash a smile for your personal paparazzi, and get ready to party to the dueling DJ beat. It will be a night of New Year’s Eve glamour like Tucson has never seen before!”

General admission is $100, and VIP tickets are $125.

Sergio Mendoza y La Orkesta will be featured at a Latin Dance New Year’s Fiesta at Rialto Theater. Rialto’s release states: “Dress in your best vintage/formal attire and enjoy music all night long from and inspired by artists such as Agustin Lara, Jorge Negrete, Javier Solis and Perez Prado. It’s an elegant and rich way to spend the most important night of the year.”

Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 day-of, and $40 for VIP.

The Triangle T Historic Ranch is hosting a New Years Eve dinner for $30.00, with a choice of Prime Rib or Chiricahua Chicken, party favors, and Champagne toast at midnight.

A massive gathering of Native-American tribes from across the continent will again gather in Tucson for “Thunder in the Desert,” an event that has been held every four years since 2000. According to the event’s website: “‘Thunder in the Desert 2012′ will feature parades, fashion shows, birds of prey, equestrian events, pow-wows, concerts, midnight friendship dance, elder’s, veterans’, children’s and world indigenous people’s exibition days and a lot more.”

The event runs for eight days, from December 29 until January 8 – tickets are $12 per person per day.

-Celebrate New Year’s Eve “upside down” at The Loft Theater with a screening of “the campiest, most beloved disaster flick in movie history, 1972’s THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE, a cinematic extravaganza which marks its 40th anniversary at 12:01 a.m., January 1st, 2012!”

“Passengers” will groove out to 70’s tunes before the cruise embarks, and guests are encouraged to don their best 70’s outfit for a chance to win the costume contest.

The Tucson Jazz Society is hosting an evening of jazz, gourmet dinner, dancing and more at the JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort and Spa. The event listing states: “Join world-renowned trumpeter Rick Braun, the ‘livin’ large’ saxophonist Euge Groove, and Grammy nominated singer-guitarist- songwriter Jonathan Butler for a night you will not forget!”
