Born to Sea moves up for Killavullan Stakes

1 of 1

Although a little unfair at this stage of his career, it’s hard not to have huge expectations for the John Oxx-trained Born To Sea, who bids to maintain his unbeaten record in the Group Three JRA Killavullan Stakes at Leopardstown.

As a half-brother to the brilliant Sea The Stars and the mighty Galileo among others, there was always going to be plenty of interest surrounding the Invincible Spirit colt, and he delivered in tremendous style on his debut at the Curragh last month.

Moving up in both trip and grade will demand more of him here, but it looks a perfect place to further his education and defeat would be disappointing.

Aidan O’Brien fires three bullets in opposition, with impressive maiden scorer Nephrite, a beautifully-bred individual in his own right, possibly the pick of them.

The Listed Trigo Stakes provides good support to the main event and the admirable Famous Name, winner of this event in 2008 and 2010, will be tough to beat.

He dips in class following fine efforts in the Irish Champion Stakes and Prix Dollar and it would be hard to begrudge Dermot Weld’s durable entire a tenth course success.

The seven-race card opens at 1.00 with the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden and O’Brien has an outstanding candidate in the shape of Wonderful, who found only Breeders’ Cup-bound stablemate Up too good on her Dundalk debut last month.

Paul Flynn’s Mr Red Clubs is worth another chance in the leopardstown.com Nursery, while O’Brien could be celebrating again after the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden, with Thomasgainsborough and newcomer Order both high on the shortlist.

Hat-trick seeker Fred Fenster has the Richard Fahey-trained duo Take It To The Max and Extraterrestrial to worry about in the Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Handicap Final, while the concluding Follow Leopardstown On Facebook Handicap may be best left to Weld’s Listowel fourth Midnight Music.
