Polygon backed for Newbury Chalice Stakes

Polygon (4.30) can show she’s a filly going places quickly by winning the featured Chalice Stakes at Newbury today.

John Gosden has fasttracked her into Listed company after she easily won her maiden at the same track in June.

That was only Polygon’s second run – she finished a promising third on her debut at Newmarket – but is clearly rated by her trainer as she is still in possession of an entry in next month’s Yorkshire Oaks.

Although at a disadvantage with today’s rivals in terms of racecourse experience, she would need to score in this grade to justify a tilt at that Group 1 and it’s a definite plus that this has been a good race for threeyear-olds in the last 10 years or so.

Secret Millionaire (5.00) is well handicapped on the pick of his form and merits another chance in this lower class after disappointing at Ascot last time. Ridden by an inexperienced apprentice that day, he should prove a different proposition with Richard Hughes booked.
