ARISTOCRAT TO LORD IT AT GOODWOOD

14:00 Coutts Glorious Stakes

Campanologist won two Group 1’s in Germany around this time a year ago and though moderate since this could be his time of year. Indian Days has a Group 3 penalty for landing the John Porter at Newbury which makes this tough but the admirable Distant Memories escapes a penalty for his victory at this level at Windsor in August. Drunken Sailor won a Listed contest by 7l before finishing third behind Await The Dawn and Harris Tweed in the Hardwicke Stakes where Campanologist was fifth. The runner-up is improving fast and a similar level of performance would see him difficult to beat but REDWOOD, who won this a year ago before embarking on an international crusade that saw him take the Grade 1 Northern Dancer Stakes in Canada, will be better for his run behind Crystal Capella at Newmarket three weeks ago and his stable is in much better form.

14:35 RSA Thoroughbred Stakes

After victories in a maiden and a handicap, WESTERN ARISTOCRAT enhanced his reputation with a superb effort behind the classy Strong Suit in the Jersey Stakes and today’s extra furlong can enable him to gain his first black type victory. Tazahum had Neebras a couple of lengths behind when taking the Heron Stakes at Sandown in May before finding 1m2f stretching his stamina at Royal Ascot. Neebras is 4lb better off here and could reverse the positions on the faster ground. The remaining trio will all need to find more to trouble the principals.

15:10 totesport Mile

Roger Charlton has won this twice in recent years and last year’s fourth Proponent can run from the same mark this time. A low draw is generally helpful here so expect a big run from him but he was firmly put in his place by GREEN DESTINY at Newmarket in April and William Haggas’ charge is another with a good berth. He drops back to a mile after winning the John Smith’s at York in superb style but has a tremendous turn of foot and shouldn’t be inconvenienced. Three-year-olds have a good record in the race and both Sagramor and Cai Shen, first and second in the Britannia Stakes at Ascot, must be considered as both are reasonably drawn and on the upgrade. Dance And Dance ran an excellent race in the Royal Hunt Cup but a 6lb rise and a high draw makes this tougher. He had earlier scored at Epsom when Vainglory, who was unlucky in-running, stayed on strongly and the latter could repay each-way support at a fair price.

15:45 Tanqueray Richmond Stakes

Richard Hannon has won this for the past three years and HARBOUR WATCH will be a warm order to make it number four. A very impressive winner when completing a double in a conditions event at Newmarket, he should be followed until beaten. Stablemate Eureka didn’t quite have the pace for the Weatherbys Super Sprint and will be better back over today’s extra furlong while Saigon won a Listed contest at Newbury and his battling qualities should see him run into a place at least. Bogart has always been well regarded and had no problems making a winning debut over subsequent winner Holy Roman Warrior at Ayr.

16:20 Rothschild Waddesdon Wines Nursery

Richard Hannon saddles three here and though Richard Hughes is on board Lord Ofthe Shadows it’s unlikely he would have made the weight for Glee and certainly not for Mr Knightley. All three have obvious chances but Glee looks nicely treated after her success over 6f here and could prove best of the trio. Mark Johnston has a couple of entries with Kempton winner Mabroor probably the pick while Newmarket winner Royal Blush is on the upgrade though hasn’t been done any favours with the draw. Barry Hills’ stable is now out of the doldrums and Silvestre De Sousa is an eye-catching booking for WEST LEAKE HARE, who gets the vote after his Leicester success as he looks capable of scoring from higher marks than this.

16:50 Oak Tree Stakes

Tropical Paradise won this a year ago and will be primed for a repeat but three-year-olds have a better record than their elders and it’s the younger generation that should be successful this time. KHOR SHEED looks a typical Luca Cumani improver and gained many admirers when landing a Listed race over this trip at Warwick. She’ll progress further and gets the vote ahead of Maqaasid, third in the 1000 Guineas before unplaced in a couple of Group 1’s. Rimth landed the Fred Darling Stakes before a fair effort in the French 1000 Guineas and must be respected while Perfect Tribute, though behind Rimth at Newbury, improved to take Listed and Group 3 contests before finding a mile and soft ground beyond her at Chantilly.

17:25 Turf Club Handicap

Albany Rose went to Pontefract on a four-timer but the combination of a much higher mark and a stiff finish brought her winning run to an end. She should be more at home here and can go well but CADEAUX PEARL looks just the type Dandy Nicholls wins with at this meeting and the recent Catterick winner, who hasn’t had much racing, can take this before climbing the ratings. Redvers has never raced at the minimum trip but there’s no denying his pace and he should be in the shake-up as should Mosaicist, another who has yet to race over 5f but shows very good early speed. Jamesway missed the break at Newmarket and never got involved but is better than that and must be considered.
