Five in hospital, one arrested after crash

IRVINE – Five people are in local hospitals after the vehicle they were in collided with a pickup early Sunday, police said.

Irvine Police Lt. Henry Boggs said the collision occurred at about 1:15 a.m. when the five people – in a Mercedes-Benz – collided with a Toyota pickup at the intersection of Irvine Boulevard and Culver Drive.

A 14-year-old passenger in the Mercedes-Benz is listed in grave condition. Another passenger, a 15-year-old girl, is listed in guarded condition. The other two passengers – teenage girls – and the driver of the Mercedes, a 48-year-old man, are listed in fair condition, Boggs said.

Neither the driver nor the passenger of the Toyota was injured.

The driver of the Toyota, Austin Farley, 26, was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving. Farley, an Irvine resident, was taken to the Orange County Jail and is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.

According to the Orange County Superior Courts website, Farley pleaded guilty in 2009 to driving under the influence. In 2006, Farley pleaded guilty to driving with a suspended license and refusing to submit to a test for driving under the influence.

Anyone with information about the collision is asked to call Sgt. Dennis Maisano at 949-724-7023.
