Maine realtors hold clearance sale – WLBZ

YARMOUTH, Maine  (NEWS CENTER) — Maine realtors are putting some of their listed homes on clearance as a way to jumpstart the typically busy Spring season.

About 750 sellers represented by dozens of real estate agents throughout Maine have agreed to reduce their asking prices by at least $10,000 for the event.

Exisiting home sales in Maine continue to be sluggish. They dropped two percent in February from the previous year.

With warmer weather on the way and people itching to get outside, agents are hoping the added incentive of discounted prices will lead to prospectuive buyers putting down offers on Maine homes.

“Even though numbers have been okay through January and February , a lot of snow people don’t like to go out so it tends to be a sllower time of year and the Spring seson through the Summer tends to be the busiest”, said Mike LePage of the Maine Association of Realtors.

The clearance event lasts only a week. It started Sunday and wraps up this Sunday with many homes featured in open houses on the final day.
