Auction shifts £2.65m-worth of properties

More than £2.65m has been raised at a property auction at Nottingham Racecourse. Lots included grade-II listed West Lodge at Newstead Abbey Park which was sold by Nottingham City Council for £203,500 while a wide range of terraced properties in Nottingham attracted interest.

The Savills regional auction attracted more than 200 people and had a success rate of 76 per cent. It was down on January’s 100 per cent success rate though auctioneer Chris Charlton said he was “delighted with the continued success of 2011”.

A Savills spokesman said: “There was considerable interest in many of the lots leading up to the auction and a number were sold prior, some considerably over the guide prices. These included a property at Station Road, Lowdham, which had over 80 viewings leading up to the auction sale.

“A wide range of terraced houses throughout Nottingham encouraged strong bidding which meant that all but one of those properties were sold under the hammer. For the second time running a telecoms transmitter mast this time up in Cumbria was sold producing a good income, it was knocked down from the rostrum at £175,000.”

Grade-II listed West Lodge at Newstead Abbey Park, offered on behalf of Nottingham City Council, attracted a frenzy of bids and was eventually sold for £203,500.

Savills said it already has “a strong book of properties” for its May auction.
