Political briefs for Myrtle Beach area

Essays must be between 1,000 and 1,500 words and must be submitted by March 31. The contest is open to registered voters of Horry County and for students scheduled for high school graduation before June 2011.

“The essays we’ve received in past years have really shown the passion and involvement of students in Horry County,” DWCHC President Sally P. Howard said. “We’re looking forward to a great response this year as well.”

The Democratic Women’s Council raises the scholarship money through membership fees, special events and revenue from ads placed in the annual booklet of winning essays, which is distributed at multiple events throughout the state.
