A DEVELOPER has put in a planning application to convert an empty pub into housing.

Stephen Jolley of Putley has applied to convert the Ring Of Bells in New Street, Ledbury, into a four-bedroom house, and to build five new three-bedroom townhouses in the grounds.

Two of the proposed new houses will be next to the pub, facing onto New Street, and three will be at the rear of the site, on Market Street.

The pub is a grade II-listed building within Ledbury’s conservation area dating for the 18th or 19th century. The plan envisages the demolition of more modern extensions.

In the design and access statement, the applicant’s agents Stainburn Taylor say that the pub had been struggling as a business for many years, before closing in 2009. Since closing it has been
targeted by thieves who have forced entry in attempts to steal copper and other materials.
