Cardinal Virtue in the Carrington

BORDER Rebel will struggle under the big weight in the Carrington Stakes and be no match for Cardinal Virtue.

David Payne appears to have this sprinter in red-hot form and his win last Saturday was good enough for me to be putting my money on today.

Three starts back he finished third to Whitefriars in a Listed race over the same track and distance and the quality on that occasion was much stronger than what he faces in the Carrington.

Josh Adams is riding full of confidence and has worked out the key to Cardinal Virtue _ a blue blood that is only starting to live up to his potential.

He needs to be ridden quite and showed on Boxing Day that he can reel of quick sectionals late.

There should be sufficient speed engaged with ElectricDreams a natural leader and Border Rebel an on-pace runner.

From barrier four Adams should get a lovely run back in the field and if he can work his way clear in the straight, he will prove too strong at the finish.

The $3.30 on offer with corporate bookmakers appears the right price.

Border Rebel is a good horse but I doubt his ability to win first-up with 60kg _ considering he has to give a horse like Cardinal Virtue 7kg.

He will win a good race this preparation but not fresh.

The Tattersals Club Cup is a perfect race for Snow Alert and he only needs luck in running to win.

His effort in the Villiers Stakes was terrific and thestep-up in distance to 2000m is ideal.

Trainer Chris Waller should win the last race on the program with Sikka also.

The Ingham owned galloper has turned the corner since being gelded and should be unbeaten this preparation.

He had no luck at Rosehill last start when the fence was on fire and just couldn’t find clear galloping room.

The inside gate is a slight concern but if Glyn Schofield can find a clear passage than he wins with ease.
