A police officer talks to family and friends of the shooting victim near the crime scene on Belltree Lane near Fleming and Carpenter roads in Flint on Thursday evening. “I have no idea what happened. I’ve got to see about my son. He’s my only son,” said Bennie King, the victim’s mother.FLINT, Michigan —
The victim of a shooting earlier today is in critical condition, according to police.

Police said the man was shot in the upper torso inside his home on Belltree Lane near Fleming and Carpenter roads.

Delores Sims, who lives next door to the victim, said the man was conscious and sitting up on a stretcher when emergency personnel took him away to be transported to Hurley Medical Center.

Police said the man was later listed in critical condition.

Sims, 67, said the victim’s home has always been a quiet place where the man lives with his mother.

“I’ve been here since ’98,” she said. “There’s never been any commotion over there.”

Police haven’t released any suspect information.
