Feature: Leeds’ most prolific gigging band of 2010

To see out the year 2010, we’ve been running a fun quiz with our Twitter and Facebook followers to guess which band or solo musician played the most gigs in Leeds during 2010.

We also ran the quiz on the Leeds Music Forum.

The idea was simple: we asked our friends at Leeds Gig Guide to review all Leeds listings submitted between 1st January 2010 and 31st December 2010, crunch the numbers and to produce a top 10.

Only listings submitted to Leeds Gig Guide were allowed to count, so if a band, promoter or venue failed to submit an event then it was not counted.

However, with over 3,700 events listed on the guide during 2010 – an average of over 10 gigs in Leeds per day! – we felt the ordering would be close and accurate enough.

It was also noted that 4,033 different bands appeared live in Leeds during 2010.

It’s also noteworthy that Leeds Gig Guide lists events in LS and WF postcodes only, so events in nearby cities such as Bradford, York, and Huddersfield, were not counted.

We had some great guesses, with many users guessing the Top 10, and there was one forum user who identified the band occupying the Number #1 spot on their first guess. Well done to savagenoodles.

So down the answer. According to Leeds Gig Guide the most prolific gigging band of 2010 was…. The S.S.S.S.S. with 33 gigs, mostly down at their Mojo residency.

In second place was Hannah Trigwell (30) and third place was occupied by Gary Stewart with 26 listings to his name on Leeds Gig Guide.

Fourth place was taken by The Soul Circle Gang (24).

There was a tie for 5th between Mike Raffone and the Bluetones, X-Ray Cat, Tag-Team Preacher, and Jack, and Gill’s Daughter (all with 21 gigs).

The full Top 10 is:

A final reminder: this was just for fun. We recognise that not all events were submitted by bands to Leeds Gig Guide, but we reckon that they are unlikely to affect the order of the Top 10 too much.

Have a Happy New Year!
