ACT seeks c-a-s-t for “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling
Bee” — Auditions for Albany Civic Theater’s production of William
Finn’s musical, “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” will
be held at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 29 through Dec. 1 at the theater, 111

Pentacle Theatre seeks tenants for “RENT” — Auditions for
Pentacle Theatre’s production of Jonathan Larson’s Pulitzer
Prize-winning “RENT” will be held at 1 p.m. Dec. 11 in the
theater’s lobby, 324 52nd Ave. N.W., Salem. “RENT” follows a year
in the lives of seven friends in New York’s East Village.
Auditioners are asked to select a song, no more than five minutes
in length, that is similar in style to the music in “RENT” while
also showcasing vocal abilities. No a capella singing will be

da Vinci Film Festival issues open call for entries — Entry
deadlines are Nov. 30 (regular entry), Jan. 15 (late entry) and
Feb. 10 (extended entry). The da Vinci Film Festival seeks
submissions for its 2011 program, to be held July 15-17 during
Corvallis’ da Vinci Days. The festival welcomes filmmakers of all
ages and abilities, including professional filmmakers and new
artists. Short films will be accepted in the following categories:
Documentary, Narrative, Animation, Experimental and Young
Filmmakers (middle- and high school). Young Documentary films must
be 90 minutes or less, filmmaker entries must be 10 minutes or
less, and all other categories must be under 30 minutes. Film
submissions are to be made via Withoutabox (www.withoutabox.com),

OpenLens Film Festival seeks entries — Submission deadline is
Dec. 1. The Downtown Initiative for the Visual Arts in Eugene seeks
entries for its seventh annual OpenLens Short/Film Video
Competition. Screening and an awards ceremony will take place
during the three-day OpenLens Festival in late January. Entries are
accepted from film and video artists residing in Oregon. Categories
include but are not limited to narrative, documentary, animation
and experimental. Film/video submissions are limited in length to
15 minutes or less. DIVA is also accepting five-minute films for
its Youth Visions Projectís Teen Video Challenge 2011., open to all

Giustina Gallery seeks art for cultural art show — Submission
deadline is 4 p.m. Dec. 15. All artists are encouraged to submit
their work for the second annual Cultural Art Show, featuring
Russian art. The exhibit will run Jan. 11 through Feb. 14 in the
Giustina Gallery on the Oregon State University campus. An artists

Nature of Words issues call for 2011 writing competition —
Submission deadline is June 10, 2011. The Nature of Words is
accepting entries for the 2011 Rising Star Creative Writing
Competition, which welcomes entries in fiction, literary
nonfiction, nature essay and poetry in three age categories: 15-18,
19-25 and 25-plus. Each entry should include a short biographical
statement and cover sheet and be submitted to

Music scholarships available to students — Applications must be
postmarked by March 19, 2011. Two scholarships of up to $1,000 each
are available to music students graduating from Linn, Benton or
Lincoln County high schools in the spring of 2011, or to graduates
of these schools currently studying music at an institution of
higher learning. The Loene P. Guthrie scholarship is for students
looking to become teachers of music, while the Dorothy May Jenks
scholarship is for students who wish to study music in college, but
not necessarily become teachers. Eligible applicants will be asked
to interview and perform informally on April 2 in Benton Hall on
the Oregon State University campus. Applications may be obtained

Mid-Valley Video Festival seeks entries — The eighth Mid-Valley
Video Festival is now accepting submissions in the following
categories: narrative fiction/nonfiction, documentary, music video,
animation or other. Entries will be professionally judged on
creative and technical merits, and prizes will be awarded for the
best film in each category. All accepted entries will be shown at
the festival, held Feb. 24-26, 2011, at Northern Lights Theatre Pub

proposals — The City of Albany and the Albany Arts Commission
invite individual artists, guilds and groups to submit proposals
for use of rotating exhibit space at Albany City Hall and Albany

Eugene Symphony announces 2010-11 Young Artists Competition —
The Eugene Symphony is now accepting entries for the 2010-11 Young
Artists Competition, which is open to Oregon residents of Linn,
Benton, Douglas or Lane counties under the age of 18. The
preliminary round will be held April 2, with the final round

Lebanon Chamber Orchestra seeks members — The decade-old Lebanon
Chamber Orchestra, directed by Jean Marshall, practices from 7 to 8

Lebanon Community Chorus begins new season ó The Lebanon

Willamette Valley Concert Band seeks musicians — The Willamette
Valley Concert Band is starting its 2010-11 season, and musicians

Corvallis Community Choir — Fall term rehearsals have begun,

wants to sing, regardless of musical experience. No audition is
