News and notes: December 26, 2011

I hope your holidays were enjoyable. I’ll be covering UFC 141 events starting tomorrow with the open workouts here in Las Vegas. The press conference takes place Wednesday and weigh-ins are Thursday. As a reminder, the event itself takes place on Friday night this time around, and moves back to its old start time of 10 p.m. ET.

Wrapping up a few news items from over the Christmas break:

– Duane Ludwig will officially be awarded the record for fastest knockout in UFC history. Ludwig knocked out Jonathan Goulet at UFC Fight Night 3 in what appeared to be four seconds, but a timekeeper error resulted in the time being listed at eleven seconds. Ludwig has been campaigning for months to have the record changed and Joe Rogan constantly refers to it on UFC broadcasts. The Nevada State Athletic Commission has refused to change the result, so it won’t be in the official record books, but it will be listed in the UFC record books.

– Eric Davila vs. Mike Bronzoulis and Pat Audinwood vs. Justin Reiswerg will headline the next Legacy Fighting event at the Arena Theater in Houston. The card will be televised on HDNet.

– HDNet will also air the DREAM New Year show in it’s entirety early Saturday morning. The entire event is slated for nine hours and will feature MMA, kickboxing and pro wrestling matches. You’ve gotta be a serious MMA fan if you’re sticking around for that whole broadcast.

– Chad Griggs is the latest Strikeforce heavyweight to sign with the UFC. He’ll face Travis Browne at UFC 135 in March. Fabricio Werdum and Shane Del Roasario have also signed, with Antonio Silva expected to follow shortly.

– Jon Jones has moved to #2 in the latest Yahoo Sports pound for pound poll.

– Fuel TV will debut “The Best of PRIDE” on January 3. Bouts included will be Fedor Emelianenko vs. Mirko Cro Cop, Rampage Jackson vs. Ricardo Arona, Dan Henderson vs. Renzo Gracie, Wanderlei Silva vs. Ikuhisa Minowa and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Mark Coleman.
