Clark County home sales increase slightly in December, but still down for the year

Clark County home sales climbed in December with fewer new listings, bringing some relief to a bloated inventory of homes that had been growing. Sales for the year, were still down 4.8 percent compared with 2009.

According to the monthly report compiled by RMLS, a Portland-based real estate listings service, 347 Clark County homes sold in December with another 372 sales pending. Those homes were on the market for an average of 140 days with a median sale price of $199,900.

At December’s sales rate, it would take 9.1 months to sell the current inventory of homes. It was the first time inventory in months — a measure of supply and demand in housing — had dropped below 10 months since July.

In 2010, 4,832 homes were sold for an average of $236,200, 0.7 percent lower than 2010. The average time on the market was 136 days.
