Your eyes do not deceive you: There’s affordable housing in this city after all.
All three of these South Park homes are listed for $394,000 or less. The neighborhood is just south of Georgetown on the other side of the Duwamish River, and just north of Tukwila. It’s an area with historically lower housing prices than the rest of the city.
“This really is the last affordable zip code in the city,” said Therese Bianchi, a real estate agent with Keller Williams Seattle Metro. With a median list price of $394,000 and a median sale price of $268,000, according to the last 90 days of sales data from Redfin, it certainly seems that way.
The neighborhood has gotten a bad rap in the past. It’s surrounded by Seattle’s Industrial District and it borders the heavily polluted Duwamish River. Still, it seems to be on the up and up in recent years.
New construction has attracted more residents, and two of these homes were built within the last two years. The third home is a unique find: It was built in 1907, but the exterior has been covered with galvanized siding, giving it the look of a tiny spaceship. The interior has undergone an extensive remodel.
